​This manual provides guidance for schools and local authorities on how to adopt a consistent approach to nutritionally analyse school lunch menus in order to demonstrate compliance with statutory nutrient standards. The manual also gives guidance on establishing a self-evaluation approach to the planning, analysis and review of school lunch menus. This approach ensures that continuous improvement can be a key priority.

This resource provides a step by step guide to the processes required to plan, review and nutritionally analyse school lunch menus to ensure they meet statutory nutrient standards. It adopts a self-evaluation approach which supports continuous improvement in provision of school food. It includes a checklist for information required by Education Scotland’s Health and Nutrition Inspectors as part of a school inspection.
